Notes from the Chair
Does anyone have ideas on how to retain members who have retired? How
can we include them in AAPC/NW conferences? Keep them on mailing lists?
Help them to feel welcome? Please let me know.
Also, at the Association Action Council in Baltimore in March, 2009, there was particular emphasis on becoming a multicultural organization. Not surprising, this means we have biases and do not have all the answers. We also need to emphasize learning from other persons and emphasizing justice. I'd like to hear your ideas on how to do that, as well.
—Sally Wing, Chair, NW Region, AAPC
AAPC 2010 Annual Conference Update
AAPC is busy planning for the 2010 Annual Conference, to be held at the Hyatt Regency in Indianapolis, April 15-17, 2010. Themed, "Embodying Justice: Pastoral Care and Counseling in an Intercultural World," the conference will feature workshops addressing a variety of needs in our communities counseling sites, and education and training programs.
This year's conference will feature Rev Marsha Foster Boyd, Ph.D, who is President and Professor of Pastoral Care & Counseling, Ecumenical Theological Seminary, Detroit, Michigan. Please consider submitting a proposal for a workshop in the areas of
- Models of Pastoral Counseling/Clinical Practice,
- Community/Collaborative Models of Service Delivery,
- Education and Training Initiatives,
- or Organizational/Center Development.
The deadline has been extended to June 1, 2009. More information can be found at aapc.org, and the 2010 Workshop Proposal Form is attached below.
NW Region 2009 Fall Conference
Each Fall, AAPC NW Region gathers for the Annual meeting of the
membership (Friday afternoon and evening), and for a day of
professional Development (Saturday morning and afternoon). Persons from
other counseling disciplines are cordially invited to share in these
gatherings. Fall conference planning is in full swing. It will be held on October 30-31 at Seattle University in Seattle, WA. Speakers are being finalized on a general theme of "The Diversity in Family Formation." The full program agenda as well as the exact conference location will be published when it is available at aapcnwregion.org. Please hold these dates.

Do you have time and energy that you would like to commit to AAPC NW Region?
Or do you know someone else who might have?
If so, please volunteer yourself or someone else for an office — and try to do that prior to the end of June...
Here are the regional offices coming up for election in the 2009 electoral process.
REGIONAL CHAIR (Term 2008 - 2010): Sally Wing was appointed after last year's election and needs to be confirmed for her second year in the 2009 electoral process. REGIONAL VICE-CHAIR (Term 2008 - 2010): Position Vacant. TREASURER (Term 2009-2012): Clint McNair is the incumbent. 2 Certification Committee Members (Term 2009-2012): Penelope Gunterman is one of the incumbents. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CO-CHAIR (Term 2009-2011): John Carr is the incumbent. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CO-CHAIR (Term 2009-2012): Position Vacant
In addition to looking after nominations at the Regional level, I sit on the Association Leadership Development Committee. Currently we are looking for persons to serve in various capacities at the Association level. If you would like to be considered for nomination at that level, even if you are thinking in terms of a year or more "down the track," please have a conversation with me about that. Our intent, at the Association level, is to try to ensure that persons nominated reflect the geographic, cultural, religious, ethnic, and racial diversity of our membership.
At the Regional level, Council presents a non-competitive ballot for the support of the membership.
At the Association level, current practice is to have a competitive ballot. However, the Association Bylaws Revision Committee, at the request of the Leadership Development Committee, is considering making the Association election a non-competitive process. —John Carr, AAPC NW Region Leadership Development Chair

Editor's Message
I am sad to report that I will not be able to attend the Northwest Region 2009 Fall Conference in Seattle. I have recently been asked to be a member of the Pacific Northwest Regional Executive Committee of the American Friends Service Committee, and my first meeting with this group will take place at the same time as our Fall Conference. My involvement with the AFSC is part of my pastoral counseling ministry and gives me an opportunity to support education and advocacy for a more peaceful world. I will miss seeing all of you and trust that, as always, the conference will be an enlightening and community building event.
I am committed to continuing as the Northwest Region's newsletter editor and webkeeper for the next year as long as the chair chooses to reappoint me. My position is not elected, so I am not technically a member of the AAPC Northwest Region Council. My pastoral counseling ministry and my work with WebValence has made it challenging for me to continue as an active member of the Council.
I encourage others who have not experienced a leadership role in the region to consider joining with the leadership team. I have found my past participation on the Council to be a wonderful opportunity to establish deeper relationships with my AAPC colleagues and I value that experience.—Eddy Marie Crouch
