Notes from the Chair

The Northwest Region Council held its semi-annual meeting on Friday, June 5, 2009, by conference call, arranged by Clint McNair, with Secretary Martha Callum taking minutes.

All committees made reports, some by other means than the conference call, including Leadership Development (John Carr), Certification (Gary Steeves and Fred Schramm), Theological and Social Concerns (Joseph Roy), Formation (Jon Nestor), Institutional Accreditation (Bert Kae-Je), Treasurer (Clint McNair), Fall Conference Chair (Clint McNair), and Regional Chairperson (Sally Wing).

Most committee chairs are seeking either additional members or co-chairs, so please let us know of your interest.  Certification Committee members and Conference Committee Chair are especially needed.
You're welcome to also suggest other conference locations, which could even include closer proximity to airports.

Theological and Social Concerns committee continues to emphasize integration as an evolving dynamic process, and is interested in adding forms to the AAPC website and presenting a training workshop at the 2010 AAPC Conference.

Institutional Accreditation has only a few centers, including Seattle University, which has recently received provisional approval and is also seeking approval from CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs).

Please keep the fall conference in mind, "The Diversity in Family Formation," October 30-31 at Seattle University.

AAPCNW 2009 Conference

Oct 30-31, 2009, Seattle University
DIVERSITY IN FAMILY FORMATION

This year’s conference explores family formation in America in a multicultural context. We understand a multicultural family to be a family with its own culture situated within another, or possibly multiple cultures. This can be made more complex by juxtaposed ideologies that emphasize the individual on one hand and the tribe, extended family or community on the other. Eastern thinkers are more likely to focus on the family, tribe, or larger community, whereas Western thinkers tend to focus on the individual. To provide perspectives that deepen our understanding, our speakers will delve into various aspects of families in America.

Thank you to Clint McNair ^
who stepped up to organize this year's conference.

NW Region 2009 Electoral Process

You can have a voice in the leadership and electoral process of our region. Get informed about the upcoming election so you can support the successful future of the AAPC Northwest Region. You can even take a risk, get out of your comfort zone and join in the work of the regional council. There are three things you need to know about changes that are coming, before receiving your ballot on August 31.

First, there will be a proposed revision to the regional guidelines regarding the electoral process. Take the time to review the current process by reading the guidelines on our web site.  Proposed changes will give the Leadership Development Chair, in consultation with Council, until June 30 to prepare a slate of nominees for offices. Regional members will have more time to review the list of proposed nominees, receiving notification by August 1, and members can add nominees through September 15. Balloting will be replaced by ratification at the annual business meeting, which takes place at our regional conference. If there is more than one nominee for an office, a vote will be taken at the business meeting.

Second, we have been blessed with a slate of officers who have graciously agreed to serve. They will, however, require a confirmation by ballot.

Chair (through 2010): Sarah W. (Sally) Wing, Ph. D.
Vice Chair (through 2010): Clinton McNair, Ph. D.
Formation Co-Chair (2009-2012): Jon Nestor, M.Div
Leadership Development Co-Chair (2009-2010): John C. Carr, Ph.D.

In addition, we are pleased to announce that Clint McNair has indicated his willingness to serve as our regional chair for the 2010-2012 term.

Third, we are looking for nominees for the following positions. Please email John Carr or call him at 780-554-7678 by July 31 to volunteer, make a nomination or to raise a question.

Treasurer (2009-2012) - Accounting work is done in the Association office, so this person primarily collects regional money and authorizes payment of invoices on behalf of the region.

Leadership Development Co-Chair (2009-2012) - John Carr has worked tirelessly to assure that the Northwest Region has quality leadership. It is a joy to work with John and he is looking for a partner in his efforts to seek out and develop leadership.

Regional Conference Committee Chair (Council appointment - term to be negotiated) - This person will have the opportunity to lead the organization of the regional conference taking place in Portland in the fall of 2010.

Thanks to all those who have given of their time and energy to make the AAPC Northwest Region a vital organization dedicated to the profession and practice of Pastoral Counseling.
