"As an educator who has taught elementary age children for 10 years and elementary school teachers for another 10 years, I feel Carol Wintle's book will be a valuable tool in combating bullying. It belongs in every schoo and library.
Susan Fleming, Ph.D., Instructor, Lesley University

"Bullying is very present in my son's middle school. Reading Empowering Children To Help Stop Bullying with him helped us start a very important conversation. It was easier to talk about bullying by projecting on the characters in the story rather than discussing real situations, which can be too painful or uncomfortable.... It enabled me to understand his perspective and experience regarding bullying. The book also reminded me how important humor is when faced with a difficult situation. Carol Wintle shows a keen sense of how to engage children. Her book is a tool that teachers, parents, counselors, and children can use together, as they participate in creating a better social environment for all."

Hello %%First Name%%,

You can take a major preventive step in reducing future bullying in the workplace by "Empowering Children to Help Stop Bullying at School." Sadly, bullying starts as early as pre-school with lifelong impact for both the victim and the bully. The result is that a high percentage of children who bully become adults who bully at the workplace.

And bullying in the workplace is a silent force that significantly and negatively impacts a company's bottom line.

Many of you have children or even grand-children and friends with children who face bullying in public and private schools.

I have taken this sidestep from my usual newsletter to focus on bullying because my wife Carol Wintle's book on stopping bullying was just published by Character Development Group.

Carol has 38 years experience as a family and child psychotherapist, consultant and trainer of school administrators, counselors, teachers and community members on conflict resolution and  bullying prevention.

Her book is entitled "Empowering Children to Help Stop Bullying at School." It is a guide for parents, teachers, counselors, school adminstrators and children that includes:

  • an engaging story to help spark meaningful conversations with children about bullying,
  • an extensive list of words or actions that children can use when they are treated with disrespect,
  • many real-life examples of students who were silent witnesses, followers and bullies who chose to help children who were bullied instead,
  • a wealth of practical activities that build critical thinking skills, and
  • examples of how children can work creatively with adults to help stop bullying at school.

In summary, this book contains the story Carol wrote about a child - Avery - being bullied for several grades at school who finally learns how to stand up, and with the aid of other children and adults stop the bullying. Following each chapter of the story Carol created a number of worksheets, handouts, activities, practices, discussions and techniques on how to address the bullying revealed in the prior story chapter.
