I founded Zoka Institute to provide visionary and creative leaders at all levels in an organization with the essential and fundamental tools to turn limited habit energy into expansive creative and innovative energy to develop and foster a creative and innovative culture in an organization. Getting the concept is one thing, and putting it into action is another. Can you? Can your company? Foster the creativity needed to be competitive in a global economy? On a scale of 1 to 10 (the highest) how would you rate creativity in your company and why should you care?
Do you have Critical thinkers? Creative problem solvers? Cross-silo collaborators? Are you stuck with limited habit energy? Visionary and creative leaders understand the importance of building an innovative and creative culture in their companies. You realize the value of awakening and rekindling the creativity in yourself and your employees to successfully compete in a global economy, to express it authentically through your vision with everyone in the organization, and be accountable for the impact you make on your wide audience.
So how do you accomplish this? My experience over 40 years of criss-crossing the line between the corporate and arts worlds shows that the performing and visual arts are very practical models for developing outstanding leadership and organizational innovation - training models now being rapidly adopted by Fortune 500 companies.
Theater is a prime example. It is an impure art form requiring the input and participation of a large number of varied creative people, technicians, suppliers, and clients (audience). A theater director is the visionary and creative leader. He/she is answerable to a group of financial investors for budgets in the millions and tight deadlines. Some say being a director is like herding cats in order to get a wide range of opinionated, creative and functionary people to work cohesively and in harmony for a common goal – everyone from the playwright, composer, choreographer, set, lighting, sound and costume designers, and the actors and choruses to the orchestrator, musicians, technical team and marketers. You are always on stage! As a successful business leader you are like a director who decides the vision to be communicated. You shape the script; choose the perfect cast, designers and craftspeople to deliver the vision as a finished product or service. Like a theater director you must fuse a myriad of styles into a coherent finished product that satisfies a varied audience – your audience that includes a board of directors, shareholders, financial analysts, customers, suppliers and the media and most important your employees. Awaken and rekindle your own creativity and you will lead with the tools and techniques to clearly share your vision with others, and impact, empower and create other leaders in your organization to follow a creative and innovative path. Zoka Institute is a creativity and leadership consulting and training firm dedicated to drive a company, its leaders and its employees to the creativity tipping point to compete more effectively in the global marketplace.
